Note: Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Advanced
Server loads as a service, not a driver.

Windows 2000, XP, Server
2003, and later version...
There have been some questions as to whether the P100 will support
Windows 2000 or later versions of Windows, since the CD-ROM only
contains device driver up to Windows NT. To clarify, the P100 is
plug & play in the Windows operating environment, and users need
only install the Intel 21143 device driver. Simply install the
card, and boot the machine. The operating system will recognize the
new hardware, and install the Intel 21143 device driver. If using
an older version of Windows (95 through NT), you can install using
the device driver located on the CD-ROM provided with the card.

The AEI Networks Linux driver supports all Linux Distributions, and
kernels. Furthermore, we do NOT use the tulip driver already available
in the operating system, as we have identified at least nine bugs...
with two or more of these bugs causing major problems not only to AEI
Networks products, but all other Ethernet manufacturers as well.

Once you've downloaded the ZIP file...
unzip it. Move the entire contents of that Zip file to your
Linux machine. Use the TAR Utility to decompress the two TAR
files. Run the install_phoboslink.sh shell. Reboot the
machine. Run insmod phobos. Check to see if the driver
is installed correctly by running ifconfig -a.
You should now see an Ethernet device installed into your
machine as pqfex (where x is equal to the total number of
adapters in your machine).

Trouble loading the driver.

SuSe and Debian Linux for the P100 Fiber
Optic 100Base-FX card.
-
The network card on both SuSe and Debian
you have to run mii-diag -F 100 eth0.
What this does is sets the card to full duplex 100... for some
reason the card is set at auto 1200 by the default driver. This
is the fix for Both Linux versions.
-
Edit
/etc/init.d/networking
insert
/usr/sbin/mii-diag -F 100 ethx
(where x is the number of the NIC) in the first line just above
the path and now it is good to go.

SPAWAR Troubleshooting Guide
B2000 - The BTLAN driver creates a conflict
with AEI's P100 fiber optic NIC, and all 21143 device drivers. The
resolution is to simply remove the conflict. This is accomplished
by following the steps described below:
- Load AEI's HP-UX device driver for the
P100 card... system will reboot.
- Start SAM (Systems Admin tool)
- Click "Remove" software from host.
- Under listed software, click on
workstation ACE, then Click on Networking 2
- Under the run times (for Networking
2)... remove every run time, remove all libraries, and remove
all cores.
- Click "Finish"
- The kernel will then rebuild, and will
reboot.
- PFE will be the only driver in the
system, and there will no longer be a conflict.
Compliments of David Pacifico, SPAWAR
(variance not required).

Problem: Card not operating properly.
Solution: DIP switch setting may need to be set...
Move the DIP switch to the forward most
position, near the DOT on the switch.
All current shipping models have this
position locked, in the forward most position. Future builds
will not incorporate a switch in the design.
